For almost twenty-five years Stewart MacDougall has been one of Alberta's busiest and most diverse musicians and songwriters.
Stewart is a respectable cowboy, and perfectionist on keys and lyrics who writes beautiful stories in a song and who brought cowboy poetry to a new level with his latest full musical theatre production Ghost Trains.
In a sense MacDougall, a native of New Brunswick who has called Edmonton home for about two decades, has over the years found himself with two listening audiences. As a player, in any of the aforementioned capacities, he's always risen to the challenge of connecting with an audience. The settings have been as varied as the musical components. He's done his job and won over crowds in bars as well as concert halls where he's played with a symphony behind him. From his participation in songwriter's workshops at major folk festivals and country music conferences, to rodeos to bluegrass fests as well as shows at cowboy poetry gatherings and spots on national television, MacDougall has pretty much played in every kind of venue imaginable.
Before persuing a solo career in 1997 he was best known for his work with Laura Vinson, K.D. Lang, Ian Tyson, and Great Western Orchestra. His songs have been recorded by all of these artists and a number of others including Randy Travis, One Horse Blue, Crystal Plamomdon and Sneezy Waters. His discography includes three solo albums, Gathering Time, heresay and Ghost Trains.
